So we flew out of Heathrow Terminal 5 on Sunday at about 2pm, landed at San Francisco about 4.45pm, 8hrs behind UK time after a traumatic demon child filled 10hr flight here, but that said the flight was great. We flew British Airways on a 747 which was an experience being on something that big, and I have to say I was most impressed by their in flight entertainment service which was an on-demand video, music and TV service meaning we could watch what we wanted when we wanted and it worked really well. I’d love to know what they had running that for a media server because it must have had a hell of a lot of horsepower under the bonnet!

After landing we picked up our car, a Pontiac G6 which is actually pretty nice. Only trouble was the $1,000 young driver excess so at the weekend we are taking the car back and changing for a car from Enterprise instead of Hertz as they don’t charge this, so getting in the good graces of Vocera by saving them $1,000 already.

Were staying in a hotel called the Larkspur Landing Hotel in Campell which is really nice. We’ve paid extra for the Executive Suite so that we get a seperate bedroom so help the girls with sleeping. I’ve been really good and used their gym here every morning so far and enjoying the workout and Nicky, Maddy and Jessie are enjoying the free breakfasts here in the hotel along with the free coffee (hell yeah).

Work at Vocera is going really well I think and I’m picking up the stuff they have taught in the training so far well, and they have given me more free stuff in the first few days already than Xerox gave me in three years. I love the laptop I’ve got for work too: It’s a Dell Latitude D630 which is really nice to use although I discovered today that if I switch the keyboard layout to English UK to get the pound symbol and all the keys in the places I expect them that the back-slash symbol doesn’t work at all so I will have to stay using English US, but I can live with it based on the fact that the laptop has the extended battery meaning I get about 5 and a half hours of juice from it – Awesome!

Were hopefully going to be heading up to San Francisco for a day this weekend to see the sights, mostly the Golden Gate Bridge, and hopefully try to grab a ride in a cable car as I’ve been told at work that this is really good to see and do.

Until next time x

  1. I called you a lucky git before you left, and nothing’s been said to change my mind 🙂

    Don’t forget my Zune!

  2. Thanks Gaz, I love you too.
I haven’t forgotten the Zune. I’ve actually been out scouting them already but people only seem to stock/sell the 4 or 8 GB versions and not the 80GB, so my hunt continues.
