Polar Bears and Icebergs

I know I like driving, but 4hrs in a single sitting is somewhat un-enjoyable. Friday’s working day drew to a close, and I was getting all our stuff ready to take to Huddersfield for the weekend. The amount of stuff we took with us, you would think we were going on a week long camping trip, but no – Just two nights up north, but that’s what happens when you have a monster – I can only imagine the amount of stuff needed for two monsters.

The drive up wasn’t actually too bad really, but arriving at Jimmy’s house, I was expecting the bulters to come out and offer to carry our bags – My mistake, that was actually Jimmy and Urg. Not too much happened on Friday night as it was 10.30pm by the time we arrived: Chatting and more chatting was the order of the night. I didn’t go to sleep until about 3am that night, so I was kind of broken in the morning.

Thankfully Nicky got up with Maddy and let me sleep in until about 10am. She came up to wake me to the words that coffee and bacon and egg baps were being cooked up in the kitchen – I don’t think Nicky had ever seen me jump out of bed so fast!

After breakfast Maddy went down for a sleep and Nicky stayed and the house to supervise the sleepy one (herself it turns out) while the rest of us went for a walk to the nearby village to collect some drinks etc for that night. The walk was about an hour, and for someone who the meaning of excersise these days is walking too and from the car each morning, I felt good for it, and not out of breath or anything. After buying drinks etc, and a quick beverage in the pub there, we stopped in a proper northern chippie for some fish and chips: I decided to go with the Chilli and Chips in the end, but I have to say it was some cracking food. I was slightly confused though whilst ordering the food, as the lady behind the counter said:

Do you want bits with that?

To me, that means absolutly nothing, but by translators from nothern to southern at the time (Zuchini and Ero) told me that meant the left over bits of batter. Seeing as I didn’t fancy a heart failure that afternoon, I passed on the bits, but they told me later that day that other places call them scrappings – How wrong does that sound?

So we got back after a 10 minute taxi journey home, as we didn’t fancy the entirely uphill walk back and started tucking into our food, and Nicky tells me at this point that I was supposed to get gravy because northern gravy is amazing – Was I told this? I think not, but never mind – She was happy with her meat and potato pie.

A little while later Zuchini introduced me and some of the others to a game called Munchkin. Wierd and confusing at first, this is probably the best card game I’ve ever played: It’s a MMORPG style game where it says in the rules  you can get away with cheating if knowbody see’s it – Excellent.

Later that day, we had the worlds most meaty BBQ and sat outside eating the feast before going back inside and playing the delights of Guitar Hero and Sing Star for a few hours, which actually turned into lots of hours, as we both went to bed at about 3am again.

I’m still feeling a bit rough today after looking after Maddy today who has been slightly less than her happy self, so I’m off to bed now.

Night x.
