Today is the first day that Microsoft Live Search transformed to become Bing.
Being a Live Search user, I’m well versed in how things in Live Search worked, and I have to say that it’s improved in some aspects, but got worse in others.
The web search results seem to be improved and it looks like sitemap XML files are being read properly now as certain sites show you the sub links like Google’s results do.
Image search and video search results don’t really seem to have changed, however what has changed is Maps. Instead of using Live Maps, it’s now using MultiMap – A far inferior product in my opinion. So now I have to take that extra step to use the Solution Accelerator in IE8 to shoot me over to Live Maps now instead.
The thing that I like least about this change to Bing is actually the name. Live Search although unliked by many served it’s purpose for it’s users and it fitted well into an existing product eco-system: Live Search, Live Maps, Live Messenger, Live Spaces…..you get the point – All of Microsoft’s online product offerings fit within the Live eco-system, however changing Live Search to Bing seems to have distanced it somewhat – Even the visual style is less Live and more Bing now.
I just hope this disjointed and breakdown approach doesn’t extend any further into Microsoft.
UPDATE: I tried using MultiMap, and it’s really slow. I’m going to stick with Live Maps even though it does mean an extra step for me to get to it.
